Hot Springs Will Host National Mountain Bike Competition
At Cedar Glades Park March 7 – 9, 2009
HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — Hot Springs has been chosen to host a USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Race Calendar event on March 7, 2009, at Cedar Glades Park.
The event is Part of the USA Cycling Ultra Endurance National Race Calendar and will offer a $2,000 prize purse for solo division.
USA Cycling is the governing body for Olympic, amateur and professional mountain bike racing.
The racers will compete on a 10-mile mountain bike track and will work to complete the most number of laps in six hours. The race will have categories for individual riders as well as two- or three-person teams. Additionally, those competing in the solo divisions will be awarded three-deep on gender and age brackets. Team divisions in male, female and co-ed will be awarded three- deep.
A companion event will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2009: The Du It In The Dirt Off-Road Duathlon. This event consists of a two-mile trail run, a 10-mile mountain bike run and a second two-mile trail run done in succession. This event will have awards based on gender and age brackets.
DLT Event Management of Arkadelphia will handle event production and organization. DLT is a 12-year-old event production organization and has produced many events including multiple national championship events.
Fred Phillips of DLT said, “Cedar Glades Park has one of the best courses for mountain bike racing in the region. We are excited about the opportunity of working with the leaders of Hot Springs to make this event a complete success.”
Cedar Glades Park is Hot Springs’ and Garland County’s outdoor adventure park, which includes a 10-mile mountain bike trail, a 35-foot outdoor climbing wall, an 18-hole disc golf course and a remote-control airplane fly field. A BMX track is under construction.
Don George, Cedar Glades Park administrator, said, “ It is an honor to host a national caliber event such as this.”
